This lathe combines the best features of larger lathes – power, capacity and capability with state-of-the-art technology to make your turning more efficient, fun and safer. The lathe can be configured with a compact footprint or using the bed extension (included as standard) the Orion can be made longer to suit longer projects as needed.
The swivel head and articulated Outrigger Accessory, together with the flexible bed configuration, means that even when turning large bowls (29”), you are still turning in the same compact area. With no pulleys or belts to vibrate, the Award-Winning DVR Direct Drive Motor powered by STRIATECH is incredibly smooth and delivers intelligent control to your turning experience.

I love this lathe. Does every thing I could want and always smooth. After back surgeries having the rotatable head is sweet, no more leaning and bending over the bed. It gives me at least and extra two hours in the shop. Only thing I can think of would be hide away casters so it can be more easily moved for cleaning and rearranging the shop. But I loved ot so much my turning friend bought one two weeks later, The delivery guy at Old Dominion ask if I was going to need to build a receiving dock for lathes coming in

My first Nova lathe was the 1624-44 it was a great lathe. Later I decided to up-grade to the Nova Galaxi with the DVR motor and it too was a fantastic lathe. I decided that it was too large for my needs which was mainly bowl turnings. I went back to the 1624 ll with the optional DVR motor. When Teknatool offered the Orion with an 18″ swing and included the bed extension, I knew it had the versatility I needed as a woodturner. The strong, smooth DVR motor is very quiet and you would be hard pressed to find another lathe that equals the Orion in quality, performance and price.
