    :

Received the 14-DR about two weeks ago. I consider myself a novice to experienced turner, having primarily turned pens and handles, but am moving to bowls and segmented bowls, quickly bumping into the limits of my 10″ Excelsior. The 14-DR is definitely a 14″ throw machine with a stated 18 1/2″ length. Decent weight for it’s size, at around 93+- lbs.
So far, it’s a great lathe, especially at it’s price point, a great value. The headstock has two pulleys for the speed range, (no load) with the lower range I have seen between 250 and 1850 RPM, while the upper range goes from 750-ish to 3600 RPM, so there is an overlap there. Since I have yet to turn a larger item such as a bowl, I may update my speed findings under load later.
Power plug is not mechanically attached, but rather has a female end to plug in to the control unit. Simple switch between forward and reverse, with a light to clearly show which setting you are on already, just above the power on/off buttons. great reminder! You must unplug the unit for the forward/reverse light to turn off.
Tail stock came right up to the head-stock center vertically on the button! Just a simple side to side adjusting to fully center due to tail stock slight movement. Definitely not an issue for me.
Nicely finished, all parts and attachments in place, with even a small tool holder for wrenches, etc. (Instructions said nothing about this, figured it out myself).
DO follow the motor break-in, as this is a brushed motor. Give the brushes time to break in.
Thus far (several pens, handles, test runs) the lathe has proven it’s worth to me.

This is an amazing piece of equipment. Since this is a pre-production unit, there were a few minor issues, but they do not take away from the lathe. I am very happy to have gotten the opportunity to pick a Nova lathe for my shop.
